Ask “Mr. Music”
Jerry Osborne

FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 16, 2018

DEAR JERRY: Nowhere, on or off the Internet, do I find a listing of Top 100 tunes with the exact same title, but are completely different songs. And because there are so many with just a one word title, skip those and count only ones having two or more words. Also, limit the search to vinyl rock era only (1955-1989). Thank you!
—Evan Sterling, Redondo Beach, Calif.

DEAR EVAN: Like you, I also cannot find this specific info. Yet it does seem to be a worthwhile project, albeit a lengthy one.

The only exception I'll make to the "exact same title" rule is an often meaningless comma. For this purpose, "Baby, I Love You" is treated the same as "Baby I Love You."
