FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 24, 2018

DEAR JERRY: Other than Adele, I don't follow any of the 21st century recording artists, but I am wondering how many stars of the vinyl era have either a single or album on the current Billboard charts.
—Gina Kennedy, Las Vegas

DEAR GINA: As of this week's Hot 100 singles, there are no artists who recorded during the vinyl era (1949-1989).

Thanks to "catalog" albums — "greatest hits" and "best of" compilations — vinyl era artists account for 14% of the Billboard 200.

Of those, only albums by Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, and Grateful Dead were originally issued in 2018.

List is according to their chart position this week:

1. Paul McCartney - "Egypt Station" (2018)
41. Michael Jackson - "The Essential Michael Jackson" (2005)
52. Queen - "Greatest Hits" (1981)
