DEAR JERRY: I have always loved answer songs. A good one is "I Put the Bomp in the Bomp” (Frankie Lymon) as an answer to Barry Mann’s "Who Put the Bomp (In the Bomp, Bomp, Bomp). I would love to have a list of answer songs and figured you’d be the best one to answer that question.

DEAR DAVID: A true answer song needs to respond directly to the matters set forth in the tuneful object of its inspiration. Usually, but not always, they are by a singer of the opposite gender. They should also be released as soon as possible after the song they are answering. Finally, parodies are not the same as answer songs.
